Indigenous Cub Camp November 2015

Cub Leaders - bring your pack and join Air Scouts Cubs at camp

The Air Scouts Cub pack is planning to visit the Nuragunu Aboriginal Education Centre near Ulladulla NSW on Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th November 2015.  As the camp is a fixed cost, we'd like to invite another Cub pack along to get our numbers up. We have about 15 Cubs of our own and we need around another 15 Cubs to attend.

This is a fantastic opportunity for your Cubs to enhance their indigenous education. In many ACT schools, primary students will learn about the beliefs of Indigenous cultures and how they are linked to the environment, but this camp will give them a more in-depth understanding about the history and traditional lifestyles of indigenous people.

The Venue
The Nuragunyu Aboriginal Centre is located at Burrill Lake near Ulladulla on the NSW central coast and is approximately 2.5-3hrs drive from Canberra.  Check out the website at www.nuragunyu.com.au

Program Outline
On Saturday we are looking at a full day Aboriginal education program & these activities are available:
- History and Traditional Lifestyle including hands on tools and weapons
- Traditional fire lighting with student participation
- Music, song & dance
- Spear making/Boomerang and or clap sticks
- Boomerang throwing
- Bush tucker walk
- Bush tucker cooking

On Sunday morning we will plan to do something exciting in the local area which may involve badge work, going to the beach, seeing attractions in the local area. Yet to be decided.

Timing
We are leaving Deakin at around 7.30am on Saturday 14th November and returning to Canberra at around 4pm on Sunday 15th November.

About Noel Butler
Our host Noel has over 30 years’ experience in delivering Cultural Education throughout NSW, QLD and WA, also the UK. Noel is an Indigenous Budawang Elder, a Qualified Teacher, Visual and performing Artist and a Mentor and Traditional Custodian of Country.

Accommodation
Cubs will be camping in tents (provided by their group) and adults will BYO tents. All people 16yrs and above must have a WWVP card and signed PED form.

Catering
Parents will be arranging the catering - there is a full kitchen on site with pots, pans and utensils (see below), and a seating area with tables and chairs so the groups will just need to bring the tents.

Leader requirement
Air Scouts Canberra can provide one warranted Cub Leader and we need at least one other warranted Cub Leader for the camp to go ahead. We would prefer to take on just one other group to keep the organisation straightforward.

If you think your Cub pack would be interested in attending, please contact Martine (Jacala) on 0417350055 or martine.pekarsky@gmail.com as soon as possible.
